A good lit lesson...finally
After yesterday's "diegetic" debacle (year 12, English film as text class, bad definition from useless textbook), today produced a more positive experience in the form of a successful literature discussion period at long last. All it took was the slight rearrangement of my kids so that they were in a rectangle, instead of the rows that our classroom has as its usual configuration. Our discussion on whether honesty is the best policy eventually moved away from whether or not you should tell your best friend that her bum looks big or not, to a more exploratory discussion involving "stakes", consequences and redemption. Now what they need to do is complete a journal response which does more than just summarise the content of today's debate. We will see.......
